The Mont Vernon home invasion occurred on October 4, 2009, in the town of Mont Vernon, New Hampshire, when a group of individuals broke into a home and violently attacked a mother and her daughter with knives and machetes. The mother, Kimberly Cates, was killed, and her daughter, Jaimie, was severely injured but survived. The attackers, Steven Spader, Christopher Gribble, William Marks, Quinn Glover, and Autumn Savoy, were all apprehended, tried, and found guilty of murder, attempted murder, and other charges. Spader, who was the ringleader of the group, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The Mont Vernon home invasion sparked outrage and led to changes in New Hampshire's criminal justice system, including the passage of a law allowing for life sentences without parole for certain offenses.
